Feeling pretty? Head for Egyptian next week for ‘West Side Story’ sing-along

OGDEN — “West Side Story” is brought back to the big screen at Peery’s Egyptian Theater for a musical event guaranteed to get people singing.

The movie begins at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 26, at the theater, 2415 Washington Blvd.

Going off of the success of “Mamma Mia!” back in March of this year, the “West Side Story” Sing-A-Long returns to Peery’s with a different high school to benefit. During “Mamma Mia!,” part of the night’s proceeds went toward Weber High School and Bonneville High School.

For “West Side Story,” the theater has partnered with Syracuse High School with a portion of ticket sales going toward the high school’s theater department. Since 2016, the theater has been hosting sing-alongs to well-known musicals such as “The Sound of Music” and “The Wizard of Oz.” Theater event manager Ann Reeder said the intent is to continue to bring back musicals as sing-alongs.

“People love it! People get up and dance in the aisle,” Reeder said.

With movies being shown frequently at the theater, expect more film fun after “West Side Story” has been shown. Coming up in October, the annual showing of the cult classic “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” will be at the theater.

Syracuse High students are selling tickets for “West Side Story.” The $8 tickets are also available through www.smithstix.com, or at the door.

Reeder said costumes are highly encouraged, and lyrics will be provided for the songs.
