Heritage foundation hosting free screening of 1979 ‘Superman’ movie

OGDEN — The Weber County Heritage Foundation is celebrating its 40th anniversary with a free birthday party and movie at Peery’s Egyptian Theater.

The event will feature a screening of the 1978 film “Superman,” which is also 40 years old. Festivities start at 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 4, in the theater, 2415 Washington Blvd. Doors open at 6 p.m.

The party will include door prizes and a costume contest. Cosplay and late-1970s attire is encouraged.

The 1978 action-adventure “Superman” tells the tale of an alien orphan sent from his dying planet to Earth, where he becomes its first superhero. Directed by Richard Donner (“Lethal Weapon,” “The Goonies”) it stars Christopher Reeve as Superman/Clark Kent, Margot Kidder as Lois Lane, and Gene Hackman as Lex Luthor. 

The film is rated PG. Running time is 2 hours, 23 minutes.
