“The Marlow Murder Club” airs on "Masterpiece" on PBS starting Sunday, Aug. 24, 2025.Samantha Bond, Cara Horgan, and Jo Martin return as “The Marlow Murder Club,” a trio of women whose expertise and insights add to police murder investigations in this cute PBS series. It is fun to see how these three women can come up with clues and even the murderers just a hair before the police.
Detective Sgt. Malik (Natalie Dew) knows how much help the trio can be and officially makes them civilian advisors, which gives the women additional access to people and places.
Judith Potts (Bond) is a retired archaeologist and crossword expert. Becks Starling (Horgan) is the wife of the local vicar. And Suzie Harris (Martin) is a dog lover and professional dog walker who this season becomes an empty nester when her daughter goes off to college. The three women work well together and each of them has something special to offer when it comes to investigating murders. However, Judith is the one who puts everything together in a neat little bow and unmasks the murderer with her special flair.
Detective Sgt. Perry (Phill Langhorne) has his doubts about giving the women access to the police investigations, but in this season he realizes their value. They prove over and over again how reliable and insightful they are.
This second season consists of six episodes. Each murder investigation unravels over two episodes, so there are three murders in this season — each one more difficult to solve than the previous one.
The first case involves the death of a wealthy man who is about to remarry. While at first it looks like an accident, the women know better. They convince the police to investigate it as a murder.
While investigating, they discover the deceased had made a new will that is nowhere to be found. What would it contain? The suspects are the greedy son, the daughter, the ex-wife and even the fiancé. Unraveling the pieces to this puzzle proves to be confusing but thanks to the Marlow Murder Club, the murder is solved with a big twist.
The second case is very strange when the body of a man is found dead in the middle of an almost uninhabited cul-de-sac that is meant to be demolished to build a new, modern neighborhood. The thing is, there are only two families holding out and refusing to sell and move. Could the murdered man have anything to do with one or both of these families?
Then another body is discovered, which leads the trio in a different direction. The women know the two deaths are connected. But how? Being the cunning women they are, they do manage to get to the bottom of this strange mystery/murder.
And the final case this season involves the murder of a man at the Marlow Sailing Club. Interestingly, Judith happened to be across the river while assisting in an archaeology dig when the body was discovered. The archaeologists had used a drone earlier that was blown off course by the wind and captured the incident on video. Will the video be able to unmask the killer?
While the police and the trio use their contacts and knowledge of the people and places, there are interesting twists and turns. And when Suzie’s beloved dog Luna gets dognapped, that ultimately leads the women, and eventually the police, to the murderer.
The Marlow Murder Club’s three women make a fun group with their cute snippets and inside jokes.
The series if filmed on location in Marlow, Buckinghamshire, England. It’s a picturesque little town on the Thames. Real locations were used for the scenes including the All Saints Church; the Longridge Activity Center, which substituted for the Marlow Rowing Club; the Marlow Suspension Bridge; and other places in the area. It looks to be a calm, peaceful community; however, when it comes to murder, they have their hands full — at least in this fictional series.
The first case of Season Two begins Sunday and the final case ends Sept. 28. They are interesting and intelligent, as are the characters.
