Guadalajara’s Ballet Folclórico and Mariachi Femenil Estrella de México will perform Wednesday, June 8, 2022, at Weber State University in Ogden.

On June 8, internationally renowned Guadalajara’s Ballet Folclórico and Mariachi Femenil Estrella de México will perform México en el Corazón live at Weber State University.

The Ogden performance is free to the community through support from local sponsors including Ogden College Town Coalition, Latinos United Promoting Education and Civic Engagement (LUPEC), Rancho Markets Ogden, and Weber State’s College of Arts & Humanities “Browning Presents!”.

México en el Corazón, a combination of folk ballet and mariachi, has become nationally recognized for its performances of traditional dances of Mexico in venues throughout Northern America over the last seven years. Their current tour, Mexico in the Heart, will visit 15 cities.

The North American Institute for Mexican Advancement (NAIMA) sponsors Guadalajara’s Ballet Folclórico and Mariachi Femenil Estrella de México with the goal of “building bridges between countries and improving the lives of the Mexican community across North America through educational, civic, social and economic development initiatives.”

All parties involved have the same goal. Weber State stated in a press release that it is “committed to building vibrant community relationships with a focus on equity and inclusion.” Towards this goal, local talent have been invited to join the show, which organizers are hopeful will help to integrate the immigrant community.

Weber State University’s President Brad Mortensen stated, “At Weber State, we promote belonging, creativity, uniqueness and self-expression. We are excited to promote those qualities as México en el Corazónshares its rich traditions and dances with our community.”

Luis Lopez, executive director for community education and outreach with WSU’s Division of Online & Continuing Education, further emphasizes this point: “All cultures win with this presentation. This event will resonate throughout our great community. It will elevate Hispanic cultural pride while helping other groups appreciate the best that Mexico has to offer.”

México en el Corazón will be held at Weber State University’s Browning Center Austad Auditorium on Wednesday, June 8, at 7 p.m. Free tickets are available online at weber.edu/browningpresents or by visiting Weber State’s Community Education Center (2605 Monroe Blvd., Ogden) or Rancho Markets (905 26th St., Ogden).
