Chamber Orchestra Ogden season opener featuring guitarist

Guitarrist Sophie Stanley is the featured performer at the next Chamber Orchestra Ogden concert on Saturday, Sept. 30, 2023.

OGDEN — Sophie Stanley, a Weber State University guitar instructor, will be the featured performer at the Chamber Orchestra Ogden concert set for Saturday.

Saturday’s concert starts at 7:30 p.m. and will be held at Peery’s Egyptian Theater in Ogden, 2415 Washington Blvd. The show kicks off the orchestra’s 2023-2024 season.

Stanley will perform Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco’s “Serenade”, Opus 118, for guitar and orchestra. Other pieces to be performed by the orchestra are Samuel Coleridge-Taylor’s “Four Noveletten,” Opus 52, No. 4 in D, and Antonin Dvorak’s Symphony No. 6 in D, Opus 60.

Tickets are $10 and can be purchased online at ogdenpet.com/tickets, via phone at 801-689-8700 or in person at the Egyptian Theater box office. Season tickets are $25 for three concerts — Saturday, Jan. 27 and March 23.

Stanley is a classical guitarist known for her “bright sound and vibrant energy,” reads a bio on the Chamber Orchestra Ogden Facebook page. She has performed around the United States and in Spain “where her love of the rhythm and emotion of Latin American and Spanish music was solidified.”

She has won top prizes in the Utah Symphony Youth Guild Recital and won the Concerto Night Competition at Weber State, where she completed her undergraduate studies and where she’s an adjunct professor. She received a master’s degree in musical performance from the New England Conservatory and operates a private guitar studio.
