Vocalist Pepper Rose of Spirit Machines is one of many artists who will be performing as part of a new multi-genre music series "Femme As Folk" at Ogden's Lighthouse Lounge in March.

OGDEN — March is Women’s History Month and to celebrate the occasion, The Ogdenite and Lighthouse Lounge (located at 130 25th St.) are teaming up to put on a new, multi-genre concert series featuring women, transgender and nonbinary musicians.

“Femme As Folk: Book More Womxn” will feature a variety of acts taking the venue’s signature Pabst Blue Ribbon Live Music Stage every weekend throughout the month, beginning with DoomCupcake and Floatinground this Friday. The term “womxn” is used by some as a less sexist and more inclusive alternative to “woman.”

Shows will begin at 8 p.m. with doors opening at 7. Admission is $10 cash or card at the door.

All proceeds from the concert series will go to the artists and Rock Camp SLC, a summer day camp for girls, transgender and gender-expansive youth of varying backgrounds, ages 8-17.

“We have amazing musicians in Ogden, and Utah, but like most communities women, trans, and nonbinary artists are underrepresented,” wrote The Ogdenite’s founder and editor, Deann Armes, in a release. “I challenged Paddy Teglia, entertainment manager at Lighthouse Lounge, to only book womxn-led bands every weekend in March … and he agreed.

“I also wanted to use the opportunity to raise money for Rock Camp SLC because they are literally opening doors for hundreds of marginalized kids, including my daughter who has attended the summer camp twice.”

Armes noted a need for “equality” in Ogden’s music scene; not just during this particular month but as the status quo. It’s her belief that this concert series should serve as a proof of concept.

“If anyone asks me which shows they should get to, I don’t have an answer,” Armes told the Standard-Examiner, via email. “Every single one is just so good.”
