Harry Potter holiday spoof coming to The Ziegfeld Theater

By Mark Saal, Standard-Examiner - | Nov 28, 2018

SOUTH OGDEN — It’s a Harry Potter holiday.

“A Fairly Potter Christmas Carol” will close out the 2018 season at The Ziegfeld Theater. The heartwarming musical parody opens Friday, Nov. 30, and continues through Dec. 22 at the theater, 3934 S. Washington Blvd.

The musical — featuring book, lyrics and music by Rick Rea — lovingly pokes fun at the Harry Potter franchise, while combining elements from such holiday favorites as “A Christmas Carol” and “How the Grinch Stole Christmas.”

According to a news release from the theater: “Young Jerry Potter grows up disliking Christmas and the arrival of a certain jolly old elf to his wizarding school only complicates the issue. Meanwhile, You-Know-Who, depressed by his unhealthy obsession with killing a teenage boy, plots to kidnap Father Christmas, take over Christmas, and then … the world! Can Christmas be saved and can Jerry and You-Know-Who learn the true reason for the season? As the plot unfolds in this comedic spoof, don’t be surprised if you also shed a tear or two.”

The play is directed and choreographed by Joshua Samuel Robinson, with music direction by Kyle Lawrence.

The opening gala and performance begins at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 30. A $5 Student Night will be Saturday, Dec. 1.

Performances then continue at 7:30 p.m. Mondays, Fridays and Saturdays through Dec. 22, with an extra performance on Thursday, Dec. 20. Saturday matinees will be held at 2 p.m. Dec. 8 and 15.

The Ziegfeld Theater is at 3934 S. Washington Blvd.

Tickets are $19 for adults, $17 for children, students and seniors.
