OGDEN — In the mood for a little Greek tragedy?
Westminster College will present the 48th annual Classical Greek Theatre Festival next week at Weber State University.
Sophocles’ “Women of Trachis” will be performed at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 19, in the Shepherd Union Building’s Wildcat Theater on campus. An orientation lecture will precede the play.
“Women of Trachis” is thought to have been written about 440 B.C., midway through Sophocles’ career. Using haunting masks and medieval-inspired costumes, the piece tells a story of love potions, poisons and prophecies.
The play was translated by C.K. Williams and Gregory W. Dickerson, and adapted and directed by Javen Tanner. Spencer Brown created the set design, and Andrea Davenport put together the costumes.
An orientation discussion by dramaturge Jim Svendsen will begin at 7 p.m.
