The heartwarming retro musical comedy "Five Carols for Christmas," presented by Ogden Musical Theatre, is back for a second year by popular demand at Peery's Egyptian Theater from Nov. 24-29.

Back by popular demand, Ogden Musical Theatre presents “Five Carols for Christmas” this holiday season, from Nov. 24-29 at Peery’s Egyptian Theater.

Almost all 800 seats at the historic 1920s movie palace sold out during the first run of “Five Carols” in 2019, so this year’s is “sure to be a hit” OMT stated in a media release.

The retro musical comedy, set in 1954, follows five best friends — all named Carol — as preparations for their annual holiday performance at the local high school on Christmas Eve get hilariously complicated by a power outage.

“This is a story we can all relate to,” said Maurie Tarbox, this year’s director and artistic director. “These five Carols are just doing the best they can to make everything perfect and it never is.”

While Tarbox promises laughs and heartwarming doses of nostalgic music, she emphasized that this is a time period piece set in the 1950s “when things were not politically correct” and thereby shows our progress as a culture. “While it was a simpler time for many, it was a struggle for others. Even though we’ve still got a long way to go, you can see how far we’ve come,” she stated.

This is Ogden Musical Theater’s fifth year, Peery’s Egyptian Theater general manager Kassi Bybee mentioned in the release. “We have grown from just a summer performance to a full-season production in that short amount of time.” Bybee expressed gratitude for the sponsors, growing attendee base and Weber County for the support.

“Through the support of the community, we are thrilled to have reached the level of a semi-professional organization that pays all of our actors and production team,” Bybee said. “Additionally, we are immensely grateful to Weber State University. Because of their theater programs we have access to the talented quality on our stage.”

A talented cast, nostalgic music, and “top notch” choreography will make this your family’s favorite Christmas tradition, Tarbox said. “We want everyone to just sit back, laugh and have a fantastic time.”

“Five Carols for Christmas” opens Nov. 24, with evening showings at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday matinees through Nov. 29. For details and to purchase tickets, visit ogdenpet.com/events.
