OGDEN — SB Dance’s CurbSide Theater is set to kick off its statewide Night Sky Series 2023 with “Tarotville” at the Dumke Arts Plaza at 8 p.m. Friday.

Stephen Brown, director of the Salt Lake City-based SB Dance troupe, told the Standard-Examiner that the show is versatile and unique.

“It is a full-out professional concert experience,” he said. “It fits into almost any space. It’s like a theater has landed in Dumke Plaza. And the show is about tarot, and tarot cards and tarot readings. The structure is a tarot reading for the audience — the audience actually chooses the cards for that night and the way the performance proceeds. … The performance, I can guarantee you, is like nothing people have seen before. Not just with the content, but just the whole format to be able to see professional dancers of this caliber in this kind of location. It’ll be really cool.”

Brown said there will be plenty of activities leading up to the show as well, starting at 6 p.m. with a bazaar curated by Elysium Evanescents.

“That’s the local metaphysical supply shop as well as a place where readings and psychics and all that takes place,” he said. “They’re curating a little bazaar beforehand which is just really fun, gets people in the mood. There’s some merchandise there, you can get your cards read. At the same time, WB’s, which is just adjacent to the plaza, will have a special menu, special drinks, tarot-inspired drinks and they’ll also have picnic boxes you can pick up there and take to the plaza.”

Brown said the free event is especially geared at groups.

“I encourage people to come to the plaza a little bit early, picnic, socialize and hang out,” he said. “It’s a great thing to do with a group of friends. That’s exactly what it’s meant for — to be social.”
