American Indian Alaskan Native Month event

Proclamations issued by Presidents Clinton, George W. Bush and Obama designate November as National American Indian Heritage Month. As we celebrate the contributions of the American Indians and Alaska Natives, please be encouraged learn more about the cultures, traditions and history. The AIAN council would like to formally invite Team Hill to an arts and crafts event with read-aloud Nov. 16 at 2 p.m.at Gerrity Memorial Library. Refreshments will be available.

Great American Smokeout

Every year in November, tobacco users across the country participate in the Great American Smokeout. If you use tobacco, consider Nov. 15 at the date to begin your quit journey. Encourage family and friends who use tobacco to join you – the added support will be HUGE in helping you reach your goals. Jump start the quitting process by joining Hill CHPS for the Tobacco Cessation class. Here you will learn more about quitting resources and how you can take advantage of four weeks of free nicotine replacement therapy available to you. Classes are Nov. 15 and Nov. 29 from 11 to 11:30 a.m. in Bldg. 533.

Comedy improv event

There will be a free CFC awareness event Nov. 30 from 6 to 7:45 p.m. at the Base Theater. Comedy improve troupe The Improvables will perform. The troupe is family friendly, and children are welcome. There will be a food truck for food purchases. The 2018 Combined Federal campaign kicked off Oct. 18. The Hill Air Force Base goal is to raise $500,000. Holiday cookie drive

Organizers are looking for volunteers to donate 3,000 baked cookies for the annual Team Hill Airmen Cookie Drive. Each year Hill volunteers bake, collect, package and deliver holiday cookies for nearly 500 Airmen. Volunteers can deliver baked cookies from 7-9:30 a.m. Dec. 12 at The Landing. Legacy Christmas 2018

The Base Chapel invites you out to its holiday celebration “Legacy Christmas 2018”. Come meet Santa, eat goodies from Mrs. Claus’s kitchen, get a FREE family Christmas portrait, make crafts, decorate ginger bread houses, watch a live nativity play and much more. The free event is Dec. 5 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Base Chapel.

Open season underway

The TRICARE Retiree Dental Program ends Dec. 31. Beginning in 2019, dental and vision plans will be available through the Federal Employees Dental and Vision Insurance Program. Now is a good time to become familiar with FEDVIP options. FEDVIP 2019 plans and rates will be online in the fall. But you can look at 2018 plans and rates now.

FEDVIP offers a choice between 10 dental and four vision options. If you’re eligible, you can enroll in FEDVIP during the 2018 Federal Benefits Open Season. This runs from Nov. 12 to Dec. 10.

Federal Benefits Open Season

Federal Benefits Open Season for the Federal Employees Health Benefits Program, the Federal Employees Dental and Vision Insurance Program, and the Federal Flexible Spending Account Program began Nov. 12 and continues through Dec. 10. All FEHB elections will be made through the Government Retirement and Benefits Platform. Elections made during Open Season will be effective Jan. 6, 2019. FEHB guides and a summary of FEDVIP and FSAFEDS benefits are available at www.opm.gov.

Combined Federal Campaign

This year’s national Combined Federal Campaign is underway and runs through Jan. 11,2019.The CFC has provided millions of dollars in voluntary donations and assistance to thousands of local, national and international non-profit organizations that seek to improve the quality of life of women and men across the globe. Voluntary contributions can be made electronically through the pledge site atcfcgiving.opm.gov and fulfilled via payroll deduction, credit/debit card, or personal check. The site includes a search feature that provides access to the thousands of charities.
