The full Northern Utah calendar of events is on L4, but here are three local events you should check out this week:
1. Christmas Village
Municipal Gardens, Ogden, Nov. 29-Jan. 2, 5-10 p.m.
Most people in the Ogden area probably already have the tradition of going downtown at some point during the season to see the Christmas Village but if you haven’t gotten to see it yet, this is a good year to go. The city website says: “Christmas Village will once again light up downtown Ogden opening November 29, 2025, and closing January 1, 2026. Christmas Village is free for all visitors. Lights are turned on daily at 5 p.m. They are turned off at 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and at midnight on Friday and Saturday. Lights are on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and New Years.”

Layton City's "The Lights Before Christmas" holiday display opens with a lighting ceremony on Monday, Nov. 25, at Layton High School, in Layton.
Layton Commons Park, Layton, Nov. 24, 6-8 p.m.
There will be lots of lighting ceremonies around the area and the state, so you can probably pick the one that appeals most to you. One to consider, though, is the one that will happen at Layton Commons Park in Layton. The city website says: “Join us for the 2025 Layton City “Lights Before Christmas” Kickoff! Celebrate the start of the holiday season with us at Layton Commons Park! The evening begins at 6:00 p.m. under our heated pavilion, featuring joyful performances by local elementary school choirs, including the Crestview Elementary Choir, and the talented Layton City Community Band. After the performances, gather with friends and family as we count down and light up the park for the first time this season–an unforgettable moment filled with music, lights, and holiday cheer!”

3. Utah Cyclocross State Championship
Golden Spike Event Center, Ogden, Nov. 22, 9 a.m.-4 p.m.
From the event website: “Cyclocross blends the speed of road racing, the grit of mountain biking, and a dash of pure chaos. Riders tackle multiple laps on a short course (1.5-2 miles) that mixes pavement, dirt, grass, and trails – with plenty of steep climbs, tight turns, and tricky obstacles that often require hopping off, carrying your bike, and jumping back on mid-race. Races last 40-60 minutes, making every lap a test of skill, strength, and strategy.”
