Since South Weber is currently understaffed the Layton Fire Department has become aware that their assistance may be needed more.
The full Northern Utah calendar of events is on L4, but here are three local events you should check out this week:
1. NUHOPE Suicide Awareness Walk
Ogden Amphitheater, Sept. 20, 10 a.m.-noon
From the NUHOPE event website: “Join us in the Ogden Amphitheater for a short program where we remember those we’ve lost to suicide. We will have a moment of silence and the bagpipers will join us again this year to help us start our walk. Come get your NUHOPE T-shirt, featuring a new design for 2025. Free shirts will be given out on a first come, first serve basis. Visit our memorial wall where you can share a memory or write a message of hope. Grab your beads, representing who you will be walking for this year. And visit other community resource booths for helpful information.”

2. Odyssey Dance Company’s Thriller
Val A. Browning Center, Ogden, Sept. 20/Kenley Amphitheater, Layton, Sept. 26-27
There may be three dates available but getting to the Odyssey Dance Company’s production of Thriller still might not be easy. It’s a great show, though, so it will be worth it. The company’s website says: “If Odyssey Dance Theatre’s Thriller isn’t part of your yearly Halloween tradition, it should be. The spooky spectacular combines technical aspects of dance while paying homage to the stars of All Hallows’ Eve. Throughout the two-hour program, Thriller highlights all the heroes of the season, including Frankenstein’s monster and his bride, skeletons and mummies.”

It’s been a busy time for our local firefighters, so take advantage of the open house in Layton to go express appreciation to some of them for their efforts. It will be an evening of events, according to the city: “The Annual Kendall O. Bryant Fire Prevention Awareness Day Open House will be held on Wednesday, Sept.27. Try your skills at the Junior Firefighter Muster. Watch firefighters and our Search Dog “Cole” in action as they simulate searching for victims in a collapsed building. Ride on a real Fire Engine (we are asking for a voluntary donation of canned food items for each ride, to go to the Family Connection Center Food Bank). The two schools with the highest percentage attendance will win a Trophy to showcase for the year. Live Fire Demonstration of a room fire, EMS Scene Demonstration. Talk to real Emergency Dispatchers and practice calling in a 911 emergency. Free Child I.D Packets by Layton City Police Department. Food Truck Vendors on site serving up their specialties for you to buy and enjoy! (A portion of the profits will be given to help fund the School Prevention Programs) Join us for an evening of learning and fun for your whole family.”
