There has never been a better time to be in the market for a three-row SUV. Automakers continue to refine what families really want: space, comfort, technology and–more than ever–better fuel economy. For 2026, Hyundai adds a significant new chapter to its flagship SUV with the introduction of the Palisade Hybrid. And after a week behind the wheel of a Calligraphy trim here in Utah Valley, we came away genuinely impressed.
Finished in Titan Charcoal, our Palisade tester looked both upscale and purposeful. The deep metallic gray played beautifully against the bold, squared-off front fascia and intricate grille design that has become a signature for the Palisade. Hyundai has refined the exterior just enough to keep it fresh without losing the stately presence that has made it such a favorite among families.
From the moment it was delivered, the Palisade carried itself with a quiet confidence. Twenty-inch alloy wheels filled the arches nicely, while subtle Calligraphy badging reminded us this was the top-tier trim–where Hyundai has loaded in all the premium touches.
A Hybrid That Makes Sense
Under the hood, Hyundai paired a turbocharged four-cylinder engine with an electric motor and battery system, creating a smooth and efficient hybrid powertrain. The total system output felt more than adequate for a vehicle of its size. Acceleration was confident merging onto I-15, and there’s plenty of power for passing slower traffic on Highway 89.

The driver-centric cockpit features a wide digital instrument cluster and an intuitive infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay. From heated seats for chilly mornings to a panoramic sunroof for sunny afternoons, the Palisade is designed for Utah's unpredictable weather.
What impressed us most, however, was how seamlessly the systems operated. Transitions between gasoline and electric power were nearly imperceptible. Around town in Springville and Provo, the Palisade often slipped into electric-only mode at lower speeds, gliding quietly through neighborhood streets and parking lots.
Over our week of daily commuting, errands and a longer highway trip, we averaged an impressive 31.6 miles per gallon. For a three-row SUV capable of hauling seven or eight passengers, that number felt almost unreal. It would certainly softened the sting at the pump–especially with the kind of driving schedule we maintain.
A Week in Utah Valley
As with most of our test vehicles, the Palisade quickly became integrated into our daily rhythm. It handled work commutes through Provo traffic, quick grocery runs, and evening activities with ease.
The Calligraphy trim surrounded us with a premium interior that rivaled luxury-brand competitors. Quilted Nappa leather seats greeted us each morning, along with heated and ventilated front seats–perfect for Utah’s late February weather, where mornings still carry a winter chill but afternoons warm up quickly.

The panoramic dual sunroof allowed the cabin to fill with sunshine as temperatures climbed into the 60s during our test week. There’s something uplifting about natural light streaming into an already spacious cabin.
Comfort Worth Talking About
Hyundai continues to excel at interior design, and the 2026 Palisade Hybrid Calligraphy may be its best effort yet. The dashboard layout was clean and horizontal, with a wide digital instrument cluster that seamlessly integrated into a large infotainment display.
Materials throughout the cabin felt thoughtfully chosen. Soft-touch surfaces, tasteful ambient lighting and subtle metallic accents gave the Palisade an upscale ambiance. Even second- and third-row passengers were treated well, with generous legroom and available heated seats.
We appreciated the power-folding third row when hauling cargo. With a quick push of a button, the rear seats dropped flat, creating ample space for groceries, gear and everything else life threw at us during a busy week.

The interior of the Calligraphy trim rivals luxury brands, featuring quilted Nappa leather seats and generous legroom. Second-row passengers, like Christi and Traci on their trip to Richfield, enjoyed reclining seats and a quiet, airy cabin.
Hyundai’s infotainment system remained intuitive. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connected effortlessly. The premium audio system delivered crisp sound, whether we were catching up on podcasts during a commute or enjoying music on a scenic drive.
A Sunny Monday to Richfield
The highlight of Craig’s week came on a sunny, warm late February Monday when he needed to make a work trip to Richfield, Utah. Joining him were his sister, Christi Babbitt, and co-worker Traci Hartman. It was the perfect opportunity to see how the Palisade Hybrid handled a longer Utah highway journey.
Heading south on I-15, the Palisade settled into a comfortable cruise. The hybrid system proved particularly impressive at highway speeds, maintaining efficiency without sacrificing performance. Adaptive cruise control with lane-keeping assist worked smoothly, reducing driver fatigue and allowing us to focus on conversation and the beautiful mountain views.
The ride quality stood out on this trip. Hyundai has tuned the suspension to balance comfort and control. Expansion joints and uneven pavement were absorbed with minimal intrusion into the cabin. Even as crosswinds picked up near Scipio, the Palisade felt stable and planted.

Christi commented on how spacious and airy the second row felt, noting the reclining seats and generous legroom. Traci appreciated the quiet cabin, which made it easy to discuss work plans without raising voices.
On the return trip north, the Palisade continued to impress. Climbing mild grades posed no issue for the hybrid powertrain, and regenerative braking helped recapture energy on downhill stretches. By the time they arrived back in Utah Valley, it was clear this SUV was built not just for school carpools but for serious road trips as well.
Technology and Safety
Hyundai’s commitment to safety was also evident throughout the Palisade Hybrid. Standard features in the Calligraphy trim included forward collision avoidance, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert and a surround-view camera system that proved invaluable in tight parking lots.
One feature we’ve come to appreciate was Hyundai’s blind-spot view monitor, which displayed a live camera feed in the instrument cluster when signaling a lane change. It’s an extra layer of confidence, particularly on busy stretches of freeway.

Versatility is a hallmark of the Palisade. With the push of a button, the power-folding third row drops flat to create a massive cargo area, perfect for hauling groceries, work gear, or luggage for a southern Utah getaway.
Efficiency Without Compromise
Perhaps what stood out the most about the 2026 Hyundai Palisade Hybrid Calligraphy is how little compromise it demanded. Often, when opting for a hybrid, buyers worry about reduced power or limited capability. That simply wasn’t the case here.
The Palisade still tows, still carries a full family comfortably, and still provides the upscale touches expected in a flagship SUV. It just happens to do so while delivering 31.6 mpg in real-world Utah driving.
At the End of the Week
By the end of our week, handing back the keys proved more difficult than we had expected. The 2026 Hyundai Palisade Hybrid Calligraphy represented a thoughtful evolution of an already popular SUV. It blended bold styling, premium comfort and practical efficiency into a package that felt tailor-made for families.
From everyday drives through Utah Valley to a sunny Monday journey to Richfield with Christi and Traci, the Palisade performed with poise and polish. It delivered the space we needed, the technology we appreciated and the fuel economy that genuinely surprised us.
