10 LDS apps that help share, teach the gospel

Members of The Church of Jesus Christ hold the gospel in the palm of their hands. 

There are an increasing number of mobile applications available on devices such as smart phones and tablets that can provide Mormons with tools to learn and share the gospel.

Here are 10 free apps to supplement your quadruple combination.

1. Gospel Library

Can’t find your scriptures? Download the Gospel Library app, an official mobile application developed by the Church. Dubbed the “gospel study app,” Gospel Library includes access to the scriptures, Church magazines, teaching manuals, general conference addresses and music. It is available for Android, Apple, BlackBerry, Windows Phone and Windows 8, the Kindle Fire and other mobile phones.

2. LDS Tools

This app allows members of the Church with an LDS account to download ward, branch, stake or district directories, which comes in handy when you can’t find your home teacher’s phone number. Events calendars can also be downloaded, so you’ll never miss out on a ward talent show or Relief Society enrichment night. It is available for Android, Apple, BlackBerry and some Windows devices.

3. LDS Music

Perfect for those times when there aren’t enough hymnbooks in your pew, LDS Music is a digital version of the Hymnbook, Children’s Songbook and more. It not only gives members access to sheet music, but audio as well. It is currently only available for Apple devices.

4. Scripture Mastery

Memorizing scripture mastery is not an easy task for many seminary students. This app can help by offering memorizing tools and tactics such as flashcards, removing words from verse or taking quizzes. This app has only been released in English and is available for Android and Apple.

5. LDS Coloring Book

Fussy moments in sacrament meeting can turn reverent with this app developed by Hilton and Jocelyn Campbell of LDS Mobile Apps. It features a 12 page digital coloring book of scenes from the Old Testament, with the option to color using freestyle or tap-to-fill. It can be downloaded in English or Spanish on Apple devices.

6. LDS Art

Also developed by LDS Mobile Apps, this app can save you the hassle of running to your church building’s library before sunday school starts. Find artwork to accompany teaching situations such as primary lessons or family home evening on the app’s safe database, or “Gospel Art Picture Kit.” While the app is free, it offers in-app purchases and is available in English and Spanish for download on Apple devices.

7. Bible Videos

Along with providing access to the Church’s short bible videos, this app includes photo slideshows about Jesus Christ’s life and interactive learning tools such as the option to explore virtual biblical environments. New videos are added monthly to a collection of over 70 videos. It is available for Android and Apple.

8. LDS Ordinances

This app can help LDS priesthood holders who are either new to administering certain ordinances or maybe need a little refresher. It includes the wording and laying on of hands steps that are necessary for ordinances such as blessing the sacrament bread and water, consecrating oil, blessing the sick, baptism and confirmation of the Holy Ghost, conferring the priesthood, dedicating graves and more. It’s developed by 5150 Enterprises and is available in English for Apple devices. A similar app developed by Klapheck Apps is available for Android.

9. Mormon Channel and Mormon Channel Kids

As the “media channel” for the Church, this app provides access to inspiring videos like the “Mormon Messages” series, Church talk radio streams, previous general conference addresses and more. The Mormon Channel Kids app serves as an virtual storybook that lets you do the reading or choose for the stories to be told through video and audio playback. Available for download on Apple devices.

10. Mormon Tabernacle Choir

“America’s Choir” is available for you to listen to 24/7 thanks to this app, which offers the ability to stream its music anytime, anywhere. You can also watch videos of past performances and keep up-to-date with the choir’s upcoming events. It is currently only available for Apple.
