Former Latter-day Saint leader Tad R. Callister dies at 79

Tad R. Callister poses for a portrait.Elder Tad Richards Callister, who served as a General Authority Seventy and Sunday School general president for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, died Thursday in Bountiful at the age of 79, according to a Church News article.
Callister also was the president of the Canada Toronto East Mission from 2005-08. Additionally, he was in the Presidency of the Seventy in the church from 2011-14.
He also wrote a number of books related to the church, including “The Infinite Atonement.”
Callister was born Dec. 17, 1945, in Glendale, California. He served a full-time mission for the church in the Eastern Atlantic States Mission, after which he met Kathryn Louise Saporiti in his student ward at Brigham Young University.
The two were married in the Los Angeles California Temple on Dec. 20, 1968, and have six children – four sons and two daughters.
Callister earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting from BYU, a law degree from the University of California, Los Angeles and a master’s degree in tax law from New York University.
He practiced law for 34 years.
Known for his clear and eloquent approach, Callister delivered six addresses at general conference over the years, including “Joseph Smith–Prophet of the Restoration,” “The Book of Mormon–A Book from God,” “God’s Compelling Witness: The Book of Mormon” and “The Atonement of Jesus Christ.”
