West Nile virus detected in northwestern Weber County mosquito traps
OGDEN — West Nile virus has been detected in traps in northwestern Weber County, according to the Weber Mosquito Abatement District.
On Friday, Sept. 8, Weber MAD posted on its Facebook page that West Nile had been detected at Ogden Bay Wildlife Refuge at 7500 West in Hooper; near 4000 South and 5500 West in Hooper; near 1400 South and 4300 West in West Weber; and near 4000 North and 3175 West in Plain City/Farr West.

“Positive trap locations last week did not show any presence of the virus,” Weber MAD said in the post. “Until cooler temperatures arrive in the area, we can expect mosquitoes and the virus to be very active.”
A third case of human West Nile virus was confirmed in Utah County Monday morning, the Deseret News reported. Twenty-two cases of West Nile have been reported this year in Utah, resulting in one death in Salt Lake County.
No cases have been reported in Weber County, Weber MAD said.
Night spraying for mosquitos will continue through September and into October.
To protect against the virus, the Utah Department of Health recommends mosquito repellent containing up to 30 percent DEET for adults and kids over 2 months old. Long-sleeved shirts and long pants provide extra protection.
