Mixed feelings about graduation?

“Just going back to school after (my) mission. School isn’t over,” said graduate Slater Hart.

Or, “It feels like nothing has changed because my mind graduated months ago! Now it’s onto the real life in college,” said graduate Eli Anderson.

These different perspectives from recent graduates at Roy High School are just a few that graduates across Northern Utah are experiencing this summer.

When you’re in high school, it seems like it will never end. Personally, I think I always assumed that I’d always be going to school, and that nothing would change.

Boy was I wrong! Now that I have graduated, I have spent a lot of time reflecting on my high school experience. It was definitely bittersweet.

High school taught me a lot of things that I could not have learned anywhere else: tact, hard work, dedication, empathy and communication. It is strange to think now that my high school days are over.

I was very involved in high school, so I got to know people with all different interests and personalities. Even though I complained and complained and complained about going to school, it really helped me find myself and discover where I want to go in my life.

Most people talked about graduating like it was this big crazy thing. To me, it was exciting and a little emotional. It made me so happy to see what all of my friends and I accomplished.

It didn’t sink in until I saw my best friend up on that JumboTron and then I realized: This is it! We made it!

Although a big chapter of our lives has ended, we are now heading to the real world, where we can learn, grow, travel and make a difference.
