You can see the beautiful hints of summer all around us. The grass is green, the sky is blue and the sidewalk is warm from the sun’s rays.

The feeling of euphoria that the warm sun brings creates the optimal conditions for leisure. As the masses indulge themselves in the freedom summer offers, Hollywood takes the opportunity to release a wave of high-quality movies starting on or around this Memorial Day weekend.

An array of blockbusters is lined up for summer, hoping to see great success. The only problem with such movies is the incredible potential for a flop.

Movie giants are releasing several blockbuster movies this summer. Disney’s premieres include “Aladdin,” which opened Friday, May 24;  ”Toy Story 4,” opening June 21, and ”The Lion King,” coming out July 19.

Marvel has already seen huge success with “Avengers: Endgame” and will be following it up with “Spider-Man: Far From Home,” due for release July 2.

This summer is also seeing a few biopics, from “Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile,” the story of Ted Bundy, which opened May 3, to “Rocketman,” the story of the legend Elton John, to be released May 31.

Horror fans should be excited to see a number of films coming out this summer, including “Ma” (to be released May 31), “Child’s Play” (to be released June 21) and “Brightburn” (released Friday, May 24).

“Pokémon Detective Pikachu,” which opened May 10, has been a success so far and will likely continue to do well carrying into the first parts of the summer months.

Similarly, “John Wick: Chapter 3 — Parabellum” is doing incredibly well since its recent release May 17, and there is no doubt it will be in theaters well into the months to come.

”Men in Black: International” is coming to theaters June 14, expanding the franchise with Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson.

“Godzilla: King of the Monsters” indicates the potential return of the mythical beast to popular culture, but there isn’t as much hype for the May 31 movie as other big budget movies have been seeing this year.

“Dark Phoenix,” due out June 7, may be the end of the X-Men franchise as we know it, seeing as Disney has recently purchased Fox. That being said, X-Men has struggled to find a sizable audience with the popularity of other Marvel movies, which means “Dark Phoenix” may not be the success X-Men fans hope for.

“Hobbs and Shaw,” a spin-off of the “Fast & Furious” franchise, hits theaters at the beginning of August. Given the franchise’s success in the past, this movie looks like it should have a good run.

Along with the blockbusters, some more obscure films may potentially be huge draws this summer.

Quentin Tarantino has teamed up with Brad Pitt and Leonardo DiCaprio to make ”Once Upon a Time … in Hollywood,” and the result looks amazing. Those who appreciate classic cinema are waiting anxiously to see what this talented director has for us this time; the film is set for release July 26.

Director and actor Kenneth Branagh brings “All is True” to the lineup of summer movies. The dramatization of William Shakespeare’s life has done well in theaters since its premiere May 10 and has the potential to continue to attract crowds at theaters.

“21 Bridges,” starring Black Panther star Chadwick Boseman and directed by the Russo brothers, has a lot of potential for success, solely based on the amount of talent brought in to work on the film. Watch for this film’s release Sept. 27. 

“The Dead Don’t Die,” a zombie comedy coming out June 14, features several talented actors, including Bill Murray, Tilda Swinton and Adam Driver. This film has a good chance of doing well but will have to fight to stand out among a large number of incredibly similar movies.

Regardless of your favorite genre, you’ll find plenty of films to enjoy this summer, as all these movies and many more see their premieres in the next few months.
