SUNSET — The race for mayor is wide open after incumbent Dan Gotchy stepped down from the post. The primary narrowed the race to Ryan Furniss, a two-year city council member, and Chad Bangerter, who has served four years on the council.?
Ryan Furniss?
Furniss, 33, is a member of the North Davis Sewer District Board of Trustees and served the last three years as a volunteer police chaplain. He works in the security field. ?He says one of his main priorities has been seeing that Sunset City is on board with the Falcon Hill Development on Hill Air Force Base. ?Furniss wants to develop what he describes as “untapped water resources” — the city well. He believes it has been unused for too long, and with some initial investment could yield the city more revenue. Furniss believes a large piece of land behind the city office building could be used to develop more housing. ?
Chad Bangerter?
Bangerter, 45, has been on the planning commission for more than a year and is a previous mayoral candidate. He is president of a Sunset automotive restoration business. ?Bangerter says he has regularly attended city council and planning commission meetings for the past six or more years. He says Falcon Hill is an important development for the city but wants to promote a more aggressive plan to attract new business to the city. ?Bangerter says he has been involved with the citizen corps as the commander of volunteer police program and believes the city and its citizens need to be active in mobile watch and other programs to reduce crime.
