WATCH: Time-lapse video shows UDOT sliding Layton I-15 bridge into place

LAYTON — It took a lot of manpower and a lot of dish soap, but construction crews were able to move a brand new bridge into place in time for the morning commute Thursday, March 10.

Hill Field Road was closed at the Interstate 15 exchange from 9 p.m. Wednesday, March 9, at 6 a.m. Thursday as crews worked to slide the newly constructed freeway bridge in position.

“By constructing the bridge adjacent to the old one and then sliding it into place, UDOT minimizes traffic delays and inconvenience to drivers,” a news release from the Utah Department of Transportation said.

The new bridge is part of a project to reconstruct the I-15 interchange at Hill Field Road as a single-point urban interchange. The reconstructed interchange, along with several nearby ThrU Turn intersections, are part of a project to improve the flow of traffic and reduce delays in the Layton area.

A time lapse of the bridge slide can be watched below.
