Saturday, May 3, marks the annual Earth Day Birthday event at Utah State University’s Ogden Botanical Gardens from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.

Alex Zesiger, outreach manager at Ogden Botanical Gardens, told the Standard-Examiner Wednesday the event will be heavily focused on gardening.

“We’re promoting it as the Garden Fair,” she said. “The vendors that are there are mostly focused on gardening or plants or centered around Ogden community partners. Then we have a diagnostic clinic where people can bring their plants or other things that they’re having issues with in their gardens. They’re able to help them with those problems. We’re also doing a fundraiser where people can pick up plants for container gardens for the Ogden Botanical Garden.”

Additionally, the event will feature food trucks, kid’s activities and local entities such as the Wildlife Rehabilitation Center of Northern Utah, the George S. Eccles Dinosaur Park, the Ogden Nature Center and others.

“It’s a fun community event and a way for people to get out, see our gardens, raise awareness about our gardens and just celebrate Earth Day in a green space,” Zesiger said.

She added that celebrations like this are especially important to fulfilling the Botanical Gardens’ ongoing community goals.

“One of our goals is to provide a green space for the community in a world where green spaces are going away,” she said. “Another one of our missions is to provide education, especially relating to gardening. That’s how we focus on pushing Earth Day.”
