The county has tapped the Salt Lake City-based firm MHTN Architects to conduct the study. MHTN will oversee all workshops and meetings, after which a final feasibility study report documenting findings, recommendations, options, project phasing and cost estimates will be prepared for county review.
Officials aim to enhance public experience and customer service by improving accessibility to county offices. Other considerations include wayfinding improvements, the building’s future interface with a planned parking structure and office layouts leading to better organizational efficiency and enhanced safety.
Commissioner Gage Froerer said during the meeting that the county must take the necessary steps to ensure a safe and functional environment for its workers.
“A couple years ago, when we took sole ownership of this building and ended up purchasing interest from Woodbury Corporation, it really became our responsibility as a public facility to provide safety for our employees here at the county,” Froerer said. “If you look at the public facilities being built today, we’re a little behind the curve in terms of making sure that our employees have the best working environment, the safest working environment we can.
“I’m of the belief that if we were negligent in providing the safety because we felt there was better need for the money, it would be money that would not go to the right location.”
The study, which is expected to take 16 weeks to complete, will cost the county nearly $49,000.
The only other action item on Tuesday’s agenda was the second reading of a proposed ordinance changing the name of Babilis Lane, a private road at 6125 South in unincorporated Weber County, to Spring Creek Lane, as requested by all affected property owners.
Among the consent items approved during the meeting was an agreement between the county and the Weber County Republican Party to hold meetings at the Weber Center during its 2025-26 year. Meetings will be held in the Weber Center Breakout room on the second Thursday of each month.
There will be no rental fee.
