OGDEN — Burned rubber and a continuing promise to area first responders punctuated Tuesday night at Young For Ogden, and not even the evening’s rainfall could put a damper on it.

The dealership specially blocked part of its lot off Tuesday to host its first ever RTR drift event, drawing hundreds to watch stunt drivers in vehicles such as the Urban Bamboozle Mustang and Bronco RTR.

Young Ford Ogden General Manager Jake Talbot told the Standard-Examiner that the event was nearly a year in the making.

“About a year ago, we partnered with Fox who builds the RTR Mustang and started to sell them,” he said. “We just wanted to share our passion of the car with the community. They’re incredible vehicles and we just wanted to get them out there so that Ogden can see what they’re about.”

He noted that while the cars being demonstrated may seem like a special job, they are publicly available.

“It’s the first time we’ve done an RTR event,” he said. “We typically have three or four of these here at any given time, and the fun part is, the cars — they’re drifting. You’ve got a couple that are stock straight from RTR. They’re not modified any different than they would come straight from their factory.”

Talbot said he was happy with how the first RTR event had shaped up and was already planning to make it a yearly tradition.

“The turnout’s insane,” he said. “Even with a little bit of rain, the turnout’s phenomenal.”

In a press release about the event received Wednesday, Josh Hipp, sales and marketing director at RTR Vehicles, was also happy with how the event went.

“Last night showed exactly what happens when passion meets performance,”he said. “Enthusiasts, dealers and the RTR Drift Team came together to create an evening full of adrenaline and unforgettable memories. Partnering with Young Ford is just the beginning — we’re excited to keep building on this momentum and can’t wait to see what the future holds.”

The occasion of a new event also presented an opportunity for Young Ford Ogden to carry on a yearly tradition.

“Prior to the demo, the dealerships also partnered with Young Caring for Our Young to host the sixth installment of their First Responder of the Year giveaway,” the release said. “Bringing together individuals from Ogden’s fire and police departments, the organizations held a drawing for an officer to win an all-expenses paid, one year lease on a new vehicle — resulting in detective Cody Wright receiving the prize.”

Of the giveaway, Ogden City Deputy Chief of Police Tyler Ziegler said that the tradition says a lot about the Ogden community’s relationship with its first responders.

“You cannot have a successful police department without the support of the community,” he said in the release. “When we have events like this where businesses, community members are reaching out and saying, ‘Hey, we want to do something nice for you because we appreciate you,’ that overcomes a lot for officers who are out every day facing things that you don’t want to face on a daily basis. This positive interaction with our community just reinforces the fact that we live in a city where we’re supported, and because of that support, we can be successful.”

Talbot said it’s their way of giving back to those who mean so much to the community.

“We alternate years. We either give it to a police officer or a firefighter,” he said. “We’re really passionate about our first responders. We recognize what they do for our community and we just want to show our appreciation and our love for them by providing somebody with a vehicle.”

He said the RTR drift event will make it’s return around late summer of 2026.
