OGDEN — A New Year approaches, and with it, the swearing-in of City Council members.

On Tuesday, Ogden City announced a special induction ceremony at noon on Jan. 5, during which council members-elect Alicia Washington and Kevin Lundell, along with incumbent Council member Ken Richey, will be administered the oath of office. The ceremony will occur in the council chambers on the third floor of the Ogden Municipal Building.

Council member-elect Flor Lopez, who will take on the District 1 seat previously occupied by Council member Angela Choberka, is unable to attend on this date and will be sworn in ahead of the Jan. 13 work session at 3:45 p.m.

Washington, the at-large Seat A Council member-elect who unseated Council member Marcia White, told the Standard-Examiner on Tuesday she looks forward to taking on the new role.

“As an Ogdenite, I strive to center the community in all aspects of my life knowing that the best version of myself is as a community gatherer and community connector,” she said. I am honored to continue to serve our community in this new role.”

She added that she’s taken many steps to prepare.

“Getting ready to take office has been similar to what I have been doing before the campaign — meeting with people and organizations around Ogden, reviewing work sessions and meetings and speaking with City Council members,” she said. “I have had the opportunity to meet with the City Council Staff, receiving a brief orientation and outlook on agenda items for the first quarter. Additionally, I have selected the committees I will serve on as the Council liaison.”

The Standard-Examiner reached out to Lundell and Richey but received no response as of press time.

Lundell told the Standard-Examiner in November that he planned to remain engaged with the community in the period before taking office.

“You will also see me continuing to engage with the community in person and on social media, featuring new interviews with Ogdenites who are doing amazing things in the neighborhood,” he said.

Richey said in November that great things are on the horizon.

“I am excited for the future. Ogden has many great things happening, so much to be excited about,” he said. “Not to say we don’t have our struggles but I believe we can work together with new faces, and new perspectives. We have amazing people in this city and when we focus on what we have in common and what unites us, we can see great things happen. I pledge to continue listening, doing the work and being prepared to tackle whatever issue comes our way.”

Lopez opted to comment on the new position when she is sworn in.

Starting at $4.32/week.
