Project progress: Ogden airport terminal expansion entering the final stretch; new eatery to be sought

Work continues on the expansion of Ogden-Hinckley Airport's main terminal on Thursday, July 10, 2025.

OGDEN — The latest push to modernize and expand Ogden-Hinckley Airport’s main terminal is about to enter the final stages.

In January, ground was broken on a $4.4 million project to enhance the terminal by adding lanes to the front of the terminal for dropping off/picking up passengers, bringing baggage claim inside of the terminal, improving ADA access and adding parking.

With the year halfway over, Ogden Airport Director Brian Condie told the Standard-Examiner that the project is around 75%-80% complete.

“We’re on track for a scheduled completion by the end of October,” he said.

Over the course of the project, there have been some losses at the airport.

In February, the Bickering Sisters Restaurant, which was located in the passenger terminal, moved to a location in downtown Ogden.

However, Condie said efforts are getting underway to bring a new eatery into the terminal.

“We’re preparing to issue a request for proposals (RFP) to see what local or regional restaurants may be interested in setting up shop in the terminal,” he said. “As soon as I get the final draft over to our department director and it’s signed off, that RFP will go out.”

He said the ongoing expansion includes dedicated offices for car rentals and airport badging.

Condie added that, along with the physical changes going on at the airport, work has also been done on rebranding.

“That rebranding was actually one of the recommendations from the audit,” he said. “It was about more than just a logo — it was about aligning the airport more closely with the City of Ogden’s identity and standards. We wanted the airport to not only feel like a part of the city culturally but to reflect that visually as well. Our updated logo now matches city branding, and the goal is for our facilities and service to reflect the same professionalism and pride. It’s part of making sure the airport is recognized and respected as a true city asset.”

This also comes as the City Council begins to discuss a set of policy changes to the Ogden City Code this week that would impact the airport.

“Under the proposed structure, core operational ordinances would remain under Title 8 and continue to be subject to City Council oversight, while day-to-day airport policy development and administrative functions would shift to Title 11, placing those responsibilities within the mayor’s executive authority,” Ogden City Communications Director Mike McBride told the Standard-Examiner last week. This framework is intended to balance strong public oversight with the operational flexibility necessary for a modern municipal airport.”

The Ogden City Council commenced discussion on these policy changes during it’s pre-meeting work session on Tuesday. Being a work session, no formal action has been taken at this time.

Condie said, ultimately, the airport is leaps and bounds ahead of where it was last summer.

“It’s been a year of realignment and forward motion,” he said. “We’ve taken a close look at our master plan and the recommendations from the 2024 state audit, and we’re actively realigning our operations to reflect both. That’s included reworking our internal processes, engaging with tenants, and coordinating with the city. I’m proud to say we’re clearly on the right path. Terminal improvements are underway, pavement maintenance is progressing, capital investments are moving forward — it’s steady progress, and it’s helping us build the kind of airport the community can rely on.”

Starting at $4.32/week.
