Ogden statement on ‘No Kings’ protests

Ogden Mayor Ben Nadolski presents a new badge that Ogden Police officers will be issued — the same style worn by Ogden officers when Marshall White gave his life in the line of duty — during the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new Marshall N. White Community Center on Thursday, May 22, 2025.“In light of recent public concerns and rising tensions across the country regarding immigration enforcement and civil unrest, I want to offer clarity about my position, and the role of the Ogden Police Department.
Public safety in Ogden is, and always will be, our top priority. The Ogden Police Department does not have, nor do we seek, the authority to enforce federal immigration laws. I have always been, and remain fully committed to keeping the Ogden Police Department apolitical. We will continue to use the Constitution as our compass and will protect the people of our city without prejudice or political agenda.
Therefore, we will continue to proactively and lawfully pursue those who commit crimes in our community. Anyone who preys upon our residents will be held accountable, regardless of where they come from. These are the principles of sound law enforcement, the same principles that have reduced crime in Ogden by 55% since 2016 while strengthening trust in our community.
We also fully support the constitutional rights of all people to peacefully protest and assemble. That right will be protected in Ogden. But violence, property destruction, and lawlessness–under any banner–will be met with zero tolerance.
As demonstrations unfold both locally and nationally, I want to reassure the people of Ogden that our officers are trained, equipped, and prepared to uphold law and order in our city with integrity. I also want to reassure our officers that my directives have not changed. We will continue to prioritize your safety and the safety of our people–and we will do so with the Constitution as our compass, and the people we serve as our purpose.”
