OGDEN — The Weber County Board of Commissioners held its weekly meeting on Tuesday, approving a request by Nordic Village Ventures to vacate a portion of Nordic Valley Way after a public hearing on the matter.

The vacation of the road segment — located at approximately 2800 Nordic Valley Way — will allow for its relocation farther east to accommodate a future roundabout to the south where Nordic Valley Way intersects with Viking Drive. It will also create additional area for ski resort use.

While presenting the proposed change to the commission, Tammy Aydelotte of the Weber County Planning Division said that Nordic Village Ventures has assured the county there will be no disruptions to traffic on the existing Nordic Valley Way during the construction of the realigned roadway.

The only other action item on Tuesday’s meeting agenda was the final reading of an ordinance amending the name of the Weber County Redevelopment Agency. Following commission approval, the body will be known as the Community Reinvestment Agency of Weber County.

Weber County Economic Development Director Stephanie Russell noted that a new community reinvestment area is not being created and that the county is simply renaming an existing agency, referencing public confusion over the shared acronym CRA.

Several consent items were also approved during the meeting, including a contract between the county and the Rocky Mountain Barrel Racing Association to hold multiple RMBRA Jackpot events at the Golden Spike Event Center throughout the year. The commission also ratified a change order associated with the Wadman Corporation contract for the construction of the Weber-Morgan Children’s Justice Center.

According to county documents, additional charges and scope of work resulting in an increase of almost $80,000 were necessitated in large part due to “the need to comply with the international energy code.”

“To comply, the county has to make arrangements to change all underground return-air ducting material from fiberglass or PVC coated spiral ducting to double wall, R12 insulated fiberglass,” the documents state.

Other approved consent items include the extension of an agreement between the county and VitalCore Health Strategies for inmate health care services at county correctional facilities and a cooperative agreement between the county and Utah State University to “promote and provide Cooperative Extension Services.”

The Weber County Commission meets Tuesdays at the Weber Center building. Commission meetings are viewable online via the county’s YouTube channel at https://www.youtube.com/@webercountyutah/.
