Runners take off during the 2024 America First Ogden Marathon in May 2024.OGDEN — Ogden’s premier running event of the year is just under two weeks away and you still have an opportunity to take part.
The 24th annual America First Ogden Marathon, set for May 17, is set to feature more than 6,500 runners from throughout the country and around the world. The Fleet Feet Fun & Fitness Expo will precede race day on May 16 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Ogden Eccles Conference Center and is open to the public.
Isabelle Geddes, marketing and communications manager with the GOAL Foundation, told the Standard-Examiner on Monday that all available running slots have been taken, but there is one place in which they are still looking — volunteers.
“We couldn’t do this race without our volunteers,” she said. “They’re amazing and help execute the race and we do still have spots available. We have around 300 spots left, so we’re looking for volunteers for helping with anything from helping out at the full and half start to helping out at the finish line, hydration, runner information — we have all different volunteer shifts available still.”
She said these volunteers are absolutely crucial to the race’s success each year.
“We have around 1,000 volunteers that help us through race week,” she said. “We have shifts Monday through Saturday of community members coming out and helping us put on this event.”
As of Monday, some spots were also still available for the Kids K fun run event.
The public is also welcome to attend the Autoliv Finish Line Festival at the Ogden Municipal Gardens from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m., which will include vendors, food trucks and other activities.
Geddes said there was a lot of buzz surrounding this year’s event.
“We sold out the fastest we’ve ever sold out,” she said. “We’ve had a lot of excitement for this race, which is really exciting. It’s really exciting to see where it can lead going into our 25th year next year.”
She added that the 24th annual marathon is coming together smoothly overall.
“The GOAL Foundation, we produce the Ogden Marathon, and our team is working hard with all of the different community partners and sponsors,” she said. “It wouldn’t be possible without them.”
