IRS to hold direct hiring event in Ogden this week

OGDEN — As tax season gets closer, the IRS is looking to take on several seasonal employees.

In a press release to the Standard-Examiner, the IRS announced it will be holding a direct hiring event this week for seasonal customer service positions to fill more than 300 vacancies available at the Ogden service center.

The hiring event will be held at the Courtyard by Marriott-Ogden from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday.

The press release notes that the positions include clerks and tax examiners.

“As a Contact Representative, you will work directly with taxpayers to resolve a variety of issues on their tax returns and tax accounts,” the release said. “One year of specialized customer service experience is required to qualify, however, a bachelor’s degree (or combination of experience and education) can be substituted for the specialized experience requirement.

“These entry level positions do not require prior tax experience. Our top-notch training programs will teach you everything you need to know to prepare you to be successful in these positions. The hourly pay for these positions starts at GS-5 starting pay: $19.33/hr to $26.51 (after three years GS-8). The release adds that employees may be eligible for conversion to permanent career or career-conditional appointments if the following are applicable:

  • “Employee completed two years of current continuous service under a term appointment or any combination of term appointments in the competitive service at the time of conversion. AND
  • The permanent appointment may be made only to a position in the same line of work as the position for which the employee received a term appointment under competitive procedures. AND
  • The employee’s performance under the term appointment must be rated at the fully successful level or higher.”
