Ogden Arts logoOGDEN — Newgate Mall and other locations throughout downtown are among the highlights for October’s First Friday Art Stroll.
According to a press release from Ogden City Arts, the October event — set for Friday from 6-9 p.m. — is further indication of the event’s growth.
“Ogden City’s First Friday Art Stroll continues to grow, with new venues regularly joining the lineup,” the release said. “Many local artists have made their debut at the stroll, showcasing their very first exhibits and finding a supportive audience here in our community. We’re proud to feature fresh talent while celebrating established creatives, building a vibrant downtown arts scene together.”
But it’s not just downtown Ogden getting into the spirit. 9th Muse Academy of Art at Newgate Mall will host a Mad Hatter Tea Party.
“Step through the looking glass and join us for a whimsical evening as the 9th Muse celebrates its 7th anniversary with a Merry Un-Birthday bash,” the release said. “This free-admission fundraising event will be packed with wonder and fun for all ages. Enjoy magical activities like face painting, mushroom painting, a spin on the prize wheel, and much more. Sip on complimentary drinks, nibble on tasty snacks, and get lost in the Mad Hatter’s world. Come dressed in your most curious attire, and let’s make this an Un-Birthday to remember!”
Meanwhile, the Dumke Arts Plaza in downtown continues to present “This Was Water.”
“This Was Water is an interactive sculpture, sound, and video installation,” the release said. “The sculptures are modeled after the gypsum crystals, or ‘dirty diamonds,’ that emerge through the salty crust at the Great Salt Lake. The lake is drying up at unsustainable rates due to water consumption and climate change. As the water’s edge recedes, the clay lakebed is exposed. The crystals form in the land that misses water. The crystals form so rapidly (in geologic time) that they capture the surrounding clay and tar which muddies the transparent crystals-hence the name ‘dirty diamonds.'”
