OGDEN — A 14-year-old has been charged with murder and a host of other charges stemming from a crash that claimed the lives of two children.
Thursday evening, The Weber County Attorney’s Office sent out a press release regarding charges against a 14-year-old male in relation to the March 27 crash.
“The Weber County Attorney’s Office has filed charges against a 14-year-old juvenile in connection with a fatal collision that occurred on the evening of March 27, 2026, near 31st Street and Grant Avenue in Ogden,” the release begins.
The teen is charged with the following, according to the release:
- “Counts 1-2: Murder (First Degree Felony) — Utah Code Ann. § 76-5-203.
- Counts 3-4: Aggravated Assault (Serious Bodily Injury) (Second Degree Felony) — Utah Code Ann. § 76-5-103.
- Count 5: Theft by Receiving Stolen Property (Firearm or Operable Motor Vehicle) (Second Degree Felony) — Utah Code Ann. § 76-6-408.
- Count 6: Failure to Respond to Officer’s Signal to Stop (Third Degree Felony) — Utah Code Ann. § 41-6a-210.
- Count 7: Reckless Endangerment (Class A Misdemeanor) — Utah Code Ann. § 76-5-112.
- Count 8: Accident Involving Property Damage with Knowledge of Accident (Class B Misdemeanor) — Utah Code Ann. § 41-6a-401.”
The press release states that “a statement of probable cause is filed with the Juvenile Court and it alleges that, following law-enforcement activation of emergency lights, a stolen vehicle driven by the juvenile fled and struck a police vehicle. He led police on a short pursuit and subsequently collided with another vehicle traveling lawfully through an intersection, resulting in fatal injuries to two children and serious injuries to additional occupants. These allegations are part of the charging documents which may be obtained by request from the Juvenile Court.”
The Standard-Examiner reported that the first child, an 11-year-old, had been killed in the initial impact while the second — a 7-year-old — succumbed to their injuries on Monday. In total, there were two adults and six children in the vehicle that was struck. A 14-year-old male passenger was also in the suspect vehicle, but his status has not been released and it is unknown if he will be charged with anything.
Thursday’s press release notes that public information on the case will be scant due to the age of the suspect.
“Because the individual charged is a juvenile, certain information is restricted under Utah law and court rules governing juvenile proceedings,” the release said. “All defendants are presumed innocent. The charges are allegations only, and the State will present its case in court consistent with the Rules of Professional Conduct, Rules of Juvenile and Criminal Procedure, and Rules of Evidence.”
The press release further states that an initial appearance is expected to occur in juvenile court, but a date hasn’t been set at this time.
“The State will seek continued detention pending further proceedings,” the release said. “The State will be seeking certification for these charges to the District Court. No further comment on the evidence will be made outside of the courtroom.”
As part of Thursday’s press release, Weber County Attorney Christopher Allred asked the public to respect the privacy of those involved.
“Our thoughts are with the family and community members impacted by this tragedy,” he said. “We will pursue this case in court and remain committed to a fair and just process for all involved. We ask the public to refrain from speculation and to respect the privacy of the victims.”
In a post sharing the Weber County Attorney’s Office’s release on Facebook, the Ogden City Police Department noted that the case is still open at this time and that it remains under investigation.
