OGDEN — The Utah Department of Transportation is unsure of how long a sinkhole will continue to impact motorists on Hinckley Drive.

On Tuesday morning, the Ogden Police Department posted to its Facebook page that a sinkhole had opened up in the eastbound lanes of Hinckley Drive around the 1400 block and that traffic had been stopped.

Eastbound traffic on Hinckley Drive near 1400 West will be closed temporarily due to a sinkhole in the roadway,” the post read. “UDOT will have crews on scene working on the roadway. Westbound traffic is still open at this time. Please avoid the area and look for alternate routes.”

Early Tuesday afternoon, UDOT Region 1 Senior Communication Manager Mitch Shaw told the Standard-Examiner in a brief email that the sinkhole measured about 4 feet and did not cause any damage to vehicles. He said there is no timeline on how long the roadway will be closed, how long the repair will take and that he doesn’t believe there is further risk of sinkholes along the roadway.

No further information was available as of press time.

Starting at $4.32/week.
