According to a press release, the university announced that several new academic opportunities are on the table for students.

“Weber State University is introducing 15 new academic offerings this fall, adding to more than 250 certificate and degree programs designed to help students pursue their passions and prepare for fulfilling careers,” the release said.

WSU Public Relations Director Rachel Badali told the Standard-Examiner in an email Wednesday that feedback and rising demand helped the university explore the added programming.

“Weber State listens closely to the people who count on the university,” she said. “That means students, neighbors, employers, partners, leaders, and more. These new offerings are a mix of proactive planning and direct responses to demand, making sure Wildcats are set up to have fulfilling lives after graduation.”

She said that these new programs fit perfectly into the ever-evolving world of education.

“Today, a quality education means there’s proven value and assurance that it’ll open doors,” she said. “Weber State is here to provide just that, which means continuously evaluating and listening to what our community needs to be successful.”

According to the press release, new offerings include:

• Fundamentals of Accounting Certificate (16 credits);
• Advanced Accounting Post-Baccalaureate Certificate (30 credits);
• Computed Tomography Certificate;
• Construction Management Certificate;
• Mammography Certificate;
• Personal Training Proficiency Certificate;
• Renewed eligibility for radiologic technologists;
• Advanced Substance Use Disorder Certificate;
• Basic Substance Use Disorder Certificate;
• Associate of Science in Exercise and Sport Science degree;
• Bachelor of Applied Studies in Early Childhood degree;
• Bachelor’s degree in neuroscience;
• Bachelor of Science in Occupational and Environmental Health and Safety;
• Athletic Coaching and Leadership emphasis;
• Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering;
• Master of Arts in Teaching.

Badali said there’s a few fields that are getting the most attention.

“WSU has long been a top provider of health professionals, so new offerings there will help even more students enter the field,” she said. “Also, areas like teaching, engineering, and more offer everything from certificates to advanced degrees, which draws interest from people at all different stages in life.”

She added these new offerings add to what WSU has always tried to accomplish.

“There’s really a pathway for everyone at Weber State,” she said. “Right now, thousands of Wildcats are starting a new semester, each with their own goals and interests. Adding more academic offerings means even more ways for students to pursue what matters most to them.”
