According to a press release from the Ogden City Police Department, first responders were summoned to a report of an accident in the 1100 block of Washington Boulevard around 6:30 a.m. Thursday.

“Based on the preliminary investigation, a 2016 Harley-Davidson motorcycle, operated by a 64-year-old man, was traveling northbound on Washington Boulevard,” the release said. “At the same time, a 2003 Honda Element was traveling southbound in the left-turn lane and made a left turn toward a parking lot, crossing into the path of the motorcycle.

“The motorcycle struck the Honda, which then came to rest against the front of a truck that was waiting to exit the parking lot onto Washington Boulevard.”

The release said that the motorcycle rider sustained fatal injuries as a result of the collision while the driver of the Honda was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries. The motorcyclist was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

“We are deeply saddened that another life has been lost on our roads,” the release said. “Our thoughts are with the rider’s family, friends, and loved ones as they face an incredibly difficult loss. We also recognize the impact a tragedy like this can have on everyone involved, those who witnessed the crash, and the first responders and medical personnel who came to help.

“The Weber Metro CRASH Team was activated and is currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the collision. The identity of the motorcycle rider is being withheld at this time pending notification of next of kin.”

Additionally, the department warned motorists to keep a sharp eye out for motorcycles and other smaller vehicles.

“This tragedy is another difficult reminder of how quickly circumstances can change on the road,” the release said. “We urge everyone to slow down, stay alert, look twice for motorcycles, bicycles, pedestrians, and other vehicles, and take the extra moment to make sure the roadway is clear before turning or entering traffic.”
