In a press release Tuesday, the Utah Board of Higher Education announced that it is now accepting nominations and applications for the next president of Weber State University.
“Over the past several weeks, the WSU Presidential Search Committee gathered feedback from students, faculty, staff, alumni and community members through listening sessions, online comments and anonymous submissions,” the release said. “That input directly shaped the presidential leadership profile and official job posting and will continue to guide the committee as it reviews and evaluates candidates.”
Javier Chavez Jr., search committee co-chair and member of the Utah Board of Higher Education, laid out several of the qualities that the board and other interested parties are looking for.
“We are seeking a collaborative, student-centered leader who builds trust and leads with transparency,” he said in the release. “The next president should be an approachable and effective communicator who champions teaching excellence, supports faculty success and strengthens student success and experiential learning. We expect our next president to build strong partnerships with regional employers, secondary schools, technical colleges and community leaders while working collaboratively within the Utah System of Higher Education.”
During one of two formal public input sessions in January, Search Committee Co-Chair Ally Isom said they will interview the most qualified candidates and bring it down to three finalists in the end.
“The search process will be thorough and often takes several months, or more, to complete,” she said. “We are committed to doing our due diligence. The timeline, however, is dictated by the search committee and we will take the time necessary to identify finalists who are the right fit for Weber State’s next president. There are great things happening here and we want to make sure those things continue and that we address places we can grow and improve as well.”
According to the application, for full consideration, applications are due by 11:59 p.m. MT on April 2, 2026.
“As required by state statute, the search committee will conduct the process with an enhanced level of confidentiality to attract the strongest and most robust pool of candidates,” Wednesday’s release said. “The search committee will review applications, conduct interviews and recommend three prioritized finalists to the Board of Higher Education, which will make the final selection in an open public meeting. To protect the integrity of the process and the privacy of candidates, applicants and candidate information is confidential and not public.”
The release also noted that additional suggestions or comments regarding the search may be sent to wsupresidentialsearch@ushe.edu or submitted anonymously at ushe.edu/wsu-presidential-
