Ogden firefighters responded to this vehicle fire in the 700 block of 1st Street on Saturday, Jan. 3, 2025. Less than an hour later, firefighters responded to a separate structure fire in the 100 block of Quincy Avenue. No injuries were reported from either fire and they have been determined to be unconnected.OGDEN — It was a busy start to the first weekend of 2026 for firefighters in Ogden.
According to press releases from the Ogden City Fire Department, firefighters responded to two separate fires — a vehicle fire and a structure fire — early Saturday morning that were reported within one hour of each other.
According to the release on the vehicle fire, firefighters were summoned to a fire in the 700 block of 1st Street in Ogden around 4 a.m. Saturday morning.
“Upon arrival, an older SUV was found parked on the street, which had been involved in a fire,” the vehicle release said. “Firefighters made a rapid attack on the fire, keeping it contained to the vehicle of origin. There are no injuries to report with this incident.”
The release added that the vehicle was significantly damaged and is likely a total loss. As for a cause, the fire remains under investigation, but the vehicle owner reportedly tried starting the vehicle and could smell gasoline when the fire broke out.
Around 4:45 a.m. Saturday, the department was again summoned, this time to a structure fire in the 100 block of Quincy Avenue.
“Fire and smoke were showing from the basement windows on arrival,” the release on the structure fire said. “Firefighters executed a rapid interior attack and primary search, confirming no other occupants or animals were inside. The fire was contained and fully extinguished within an hour.”
A single occupant was displaced and was planning to stay with a neighbor.
“The structure sustained moderate fire and heavy smoke damage and will remain uninhabitable until cleanup can occur,” the release added.
Damages are estimated at around $70,000. A cause is under investigation at this time.
In addition to the Ogden City Fire Department, the Northview Fire District also assisted with the incident.
Ogden Deputy Fire Chief Matthew Hess noted in his email to the Standard-Examiner that while both fires are under investigation, they are also not connected with each other.
