Bob Stevenson to challenge Trevor Lee, highlighting Northern Utah candidate filing news

The candidate filing deadline for the Utah House, Senate and school board races came and went Thursday, and there wasn’t a lack of highlights.

Republican Trevor Lee in House District 16 covering Davis County will face a primary challenge from Bob Stevenson, current Davis County commissioner and former Layton mayor.

Lee has been serving since Jan. 1, 2023.

Republican Jill Koford, currently the holder of the House District 10 seat covering Weber County, has filed to run for the Senate District 5 seat covering Davis, Morgan and Weber counties. Republican Ann Millner, the current representative for the district, did not file for reelection.

Republican Senate President J. Stuart Adams of District 7 covering Davis County has three Republican challengers: Braden Hess, Jennifer Garner and Stephanie Hollist.

In House District 17 covering Davis County, Republican Stewart E. Barlow, who has been serving since 2011, will not seek reelection. Others who won’t seek reelection are Republican Jerry W. Stevenson (Senate District 6 covering Davis County), Republican Matthew H. Gwynn (House District 6 covering Box Elder and Weber counties), Republican Karen M. Peterson (House District 13 covering Davis County) and Karianne Lisonbee (House District 14 covering Davis County)

In House District 6, Republican Rob Bishop is attempting a political comeback. Bishop, along with two other Republicans (Kerry M. Wayne and Brad B. Barrowes) and Forward candidate James Rich, have all filed.

Other State Senate filing news

In Senate District 1, covering Box Elder, Cache and Tooele counties, Republican incumbent Scott D. Sandall, the executive appropriations vice chair who has been serving in the Senate since 2019, is facing a Republican challenge from Fred Hayes.

Democrat Claudia Bigler and Forward candidate Julie Quinlan also filed.

In Senate District 5, Democrats “CJ” Christina Hernandez and Dakota Wurth are also running.

In Senate District 6, Republicans Robert Wanlass and Tami Tran have filed, as has Democrat Jared Neal and Forward candidate Josh Smith.

In Senate District 7, Democrat Garret Rushforth and Constitution candidate Jeffrey Ostler have filed.

Other State House filing news

In House District 1 covering Box Elder and Cache counties, Republican Thomas W. Peterson has filed for reelection. Democrat Chris Reid and Constitution candidate Jason O’Dell have also filed.

In House District 4 covering Morgan, Rich and Summit counties, Republican Tiara Auxier has filed for reelection and has two Republican challengers: Kris Campbell and Brandi Connolly.

Democrats Zane Woolstenhulme and Zeppelin Zeerip have also filed.

In House District 7 covering Weber County, Republican Ryan D. Wilcox has filed for reelection. Democrat Bianca Mittendorf has also filed.

In House District 8 covering Morgan and Weber counties, Republican Jason B. Kyle has filed for reelection. Democrat Kim James and Forward candidate Libby Shelton have also filed.

In House District 9 covering Weber County, Republican Jake Sawyer has filed for reelection. He has two Republican challengers – Allen E. Miller and Roger Bordley. Democrat Angela Choberka has also filed.

In House District 10, Republicans Juliene M. Snyder and Jim Alvey have filed, as have Democrats Rosemary T. Lesser and Daniel C. Matern.

In House District 11 covering Davis and Weber counties, Republican Katy Hall has filed for reelection. Democrats Josh R. Koskan and Dave Calder have also filed.

In House District 12 covering Davis and Weber counties, current Republican Speaker of the House Mike Schultz has filed for reelection and has a Republican challenger: Dava Ann Neal.

Democrat Anna Graff and Forward candidate Shawn Ferriola have also filed.

In House District 13, Republicans Erik R. Craythorne and Roxayn Elmer, Democrat Jeffrey Anderson and Forward candidate Tony De Mille have filed.

In House District 14, Republicans Kara Toone and John Taylor and Democrat Brandon Young have filed.

In House District 15 covering Davis County, Republican Ariel Defay has filed for reelection. Democrats Erik Klauser and Anne Berbert have also filed.

In House District 16, Democrat Abigail Treasure has filed in addition to Lee and Stevenson on the Republican side.

In House District 17, three Republicans (Adam Sorenson, Lili Bitner and Sam Barlow), two Democrats (Eric Last and Jorge Quinones) and a Forward candidate (Kimberly Wagner) have filed.

In House District 18 covering Davis County, Republican Paul A. Cutler is seeking reelection. Democrat Scott Troxel has also filed.

In House District 19 covering Davis County, Republican Raymond P. Ward has filed for reelection and has no challengers.

In House District 20 covering Davis County, Republican Melissa G. Ballard has filed for reelection.

Democrat Phil Graves has also filed. Democrat Lew Jeppson originally filed but has since withdrawn.

In the Utah State Board of Education District 1 race covering Cache, Rich, Box Elder, Summit and Morgan counties, Republican Jennie Earl has filed for reelection. Democrats Cathy Callow-Heusser and Curtis Benjamin, as well as Milo Anderson (no party listed), have also filed.

In the Utah State Board of Education District 2 race covering Weber County, Ogden and Eden, Republican Joseph Kerry has filed for reelection and will be challenged by Republican Kati Jo Christensen.

Democrat Kacee Weaver has also filed.

In the Utah State Board of Education District 4 race covering Davis County, North Salt Lake, Farmington and Bountiful, Republican LeAnn Wood has two Republican challengers: Gary Widders and Adam Gerlach.

Democrat Heather Dopp has also filed.
