Activity continues as normal at Union Pacific's Riverdale Yard on Wednesday, July 30, 2025.

OGDEN — One person was killed Wednesday after being struck by a train in Ogden.

According to a press release from the Ogden City Police Department, officers responded to a report of a pedestrian struck by a train near 3550 Pacific Avenue — which runs along the edge of Union Pacific’s Riverdale Yard — around 4:57 a.m. Wednesday.

“Upon arrival, officers located a 31-year-old male who had been struck by a southbound, non-passenger train,” the release said. “The individual was pronounced deceased at the scene.

“Ogden City Police Department Traffic Investigators, along with the Weber-Morgan County Metro CRASH Team, are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident. At this time, investigators are working to determine whether the individual intentionally stepped in front of the train.”

Lt. John Cox of the Ogden City Police Department told the Standard-Examiner that the location of the incident was well away from any railroad crossings or other implements that could bring pedestrians closer to trains and it is not believed the person had an affiliation with the railroad.

The release adds that an identity has been confirmed but isn’t being released to the public at this time citing notification of the next of kin.

“This investigation remains ongoing. Additional information will be released as it becomes available and appropriate,” the release said. “Anyone with information related to this incident is asked to contact the Ogden City Police Department.”
