OGDEN — An overnight structure fire in Ogden displaced nine people.

According to a press release from the Ogden City Fire Department, an Ogden Police Department officer was patrolling the area of 2200 Monroe Boulevard around 3:49 a.m. Thursday when they noticed smoke coming from the roof of a home.

“The Officer reported the possible fire and initiated an evacuation of occupants,” the release said. “Ogden Fire Department crews responded to the reported structure fire. Smoke was visible from the home’s roof on arrival. Firefighters conducted a rapid interior search, evacuated all 9 residents, and confirmed that no other occupants or animals were inside. The fire was found smoldering in the attic space, contained to the immediate area of origin, and fully extinguished within an hour.”

The release didn’t report any injuries among the displaced occupants; however, it noted that the home received moderate smoke and fire damage with damages estimated at around $70,000. The home is uninhabitable until repairs can be made, and the occupants planned to stay with friends and family for the time being.

The release also said that a potential cause remains under investigation. Ogden firefighters were also assisted by members of the South Ogden Fire Department.
