Ogden Union Station is set to hold a celebration of the event on Feb. 6 from 6-9 p.m. in conjunction with the month’s First Friday Art Stroll.

“This is really meant to be a community celebration where we can get together and remember the city and what it’s become since 1851,” Hope Eggett, museum administrator for the Museums at Union Station, told the Standard-Examiner on Wednesday.

In addition to free admissions to the Museums at Union Station from 4-9 p.m., Eggett said the evening will feature the display of some of the most important founding documents for the city.

“We are collecting documents and images from Ogden’s past to highlight for the public to visit that night,” she said. “Finding documents from 1851 is pretty hard to do, but we are very lucky. I have been working with the LDS Church history department and they are actually loaning us Ogden’s original incorporation documents from 1851. To my knowledge, these have never been publicly displayed before in Ogden.”

She said the document is very unique.

“This document is really cool; it’s a handwritten document from Salt Lake’s earliest government system — the State of Deseret — which outlines the original powers that the legislators were giving to the city government, including who was allowed to vote, the creation of the right for the city to create police and fire regulations,” she said. “Even very specific rules about elections and how notices go out for elections.”

Eggett said there will also be items on display from the Ogden Recorder’s Office, including the original U.S. government townsite patent, the 1886 city seal embosser and other historic documents.

The evening will also feature live music and food trucks.

She said there will also be further Ogden 175 events tied in with the America250 celebration as the year goes on.
