OGDEN — A clearer picture is starting to emerge around a plane crash that occurred Tuesday afternoon.

According to a press release from the Ogden City Police Department received late Tuesday evening, a report of a plane crash was received at 12:59 p.m. Tuesday.

“Upon arrival, officers, along with personnel from the Ogden Fire Department, located a single-engine crop duster aircraft that had crashed on Runway 3,” the release said. “Thankfully, the pilot, who was the only occupant of the aircraft, was able to exit the plane and was not seriously injured. As a precaution, the pilot was transported to a local hospital for evaluation. The Ogden Fire Department secured the scene due to a potential fuel spill and worked to ensure the area was safe. Airport operations were temporarily impacted while emergency crews responded.”

On Wednesday, the FAA’s Aviation Safety Information Analysis and Sharing, or ASIAS, page had logged the incident.

According to the preliminary incident log, the plane involved was an Air Tractor AT-502 — a popular crop dusting aircraft. While an exact cause has yet to be determined, the log’s description notes that the left landing gear collapsed on landing and detached.

Ogden Deputy Fire Chief Matthew Hess told the Standard-Examiner in an email Wednesday that first responders were on scene for just under two hours.

“Ogden Fire was on site for fire suppression and medical needs for the pilot,” he said. “There was no fire involvement with this incident. The pilot was evaluated for injuries on scene and denied transport. There was a small fuel leak that was mitigated by fire crews before releasing the scene.”

He added that Ogden-Hinckley Airport Fire units and Roy City Fire also assisted at the scene.

“The crash was turned over to the Ogden Airport Operations personnel once stabilized,” he said. “The NTSB was made aware of the crash en route to the scene to investigate.”

The Standard-Examiner reached out to Ogden City officials regarding the crash’s impact on airport operations but received no response as of press time.
