OPD seeks help following capture of Las Vegas homicide suspect

OGDEN — The Ogden City Police Department is seeking the help of residents after the apprehension of a suspect wanted in connection with a Las Vegas homicide.
According to a press release from the Ogden City Police Department sent Thursday afternoon, the suspected was apprehended in the Ogden area on Tuesday.
“On Tuesday, March 3, 2026, at approximately 3:58 p.m., officers with the Ogden Police Department received an Automated License Plate Reader (ALPR) alert for a stolen vehicle wanted by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department,” the release said. “Utilizing information from the ALPR, officers attempted to initiate a traffic stop, but the vehicle fled. With assistance from neighboring agencies, the vehicle was later located in Roy, Utah. Officers took the suspect into custody without further incident.”
According to the release, Ziaire Jacob Ham, 22, was booked into the Weber County Jail on the following charges:
- “Receiving or Transferring a Stolen Vehicle (Second-Degree Felony)
- Failure to Respond to an Officer’s Signal to Stop (Third-Degree Felony)
- Reckless Driving (Class B Misdemeanor)”
The release adds that Ham is wanted in connection with a double homicide.

“The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department is actively investigating Ham in connection with a double homicide involving a female and a toddler that occurred in Las Vegas, Nevada,” the release said. “Detectives from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department are working closely with Ogden Police Department detectives as the investigation continues.”
Authorities are asking for the public’s help with a key piece of evidence.
“For the safety of the public, the Ogden Police Department and the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department are requesting assistance in locating a handgun believed to have been discarded by the suspect,” the release continues. “The potential area extends from 30th Street and Wall Avenue in Ogden City to 5800 South and 3100 West in Roy, Utah.
“OPD detectives are actively canvassing these areas with the assistance of firearm detection K9s in an effort to locate the handgun. Community members who locate a firearm or believe they have information related to its location should not handle the item and should contact law enforcement immediately.”
The department is asking members of the public with home surveillance cameras in this area that may show Ham or the vehicle, described as a black SUV bearing Arizona license plate CBW7733.
“Ham is described as a 22-year-old male, approximately 6 feet 1 inch tall and 188 pounds,” the release said. “At the time of his arrest, he was wearing a red shirt, sky blue graphic sweatpants, and possibly a black hoodie with graphics not depicted in the attached photo.”
“Residents in the area are encouraged to remain vigilant, check their surroundings, and review any available home surveillance footage for suspicious activity or images of the vehicle or suspect.”
