LAYTON — The Layton City Police Department is continuing to investigate an incident that locked down Layton High School for part of Thursday afternoon.
Lt. Clint Bobrowski of the Layton City Police Department told the Standard-Examiner on Friday that the lockdown stemmed from two phone calls received by the school Thursday afternoon.
“The administrative office at Layton High School received the first phone call from a suspect who indicated some threats towards the school,” he said. “Our school resource officer was on scene and in the office at the time and was able to take over the call before it ended.”
He said the SRO, in coordination with the administration, immediately put the campus into a secure status.
“It’s business as usual on the inside, but we start controlling access to the building trying to keep everyone safe,” he said of the process.
Layton police officers were also summoned to the scene and it was at this time that a second phone call was received from what appeared to be the same suspect indicating further threats to the school.
“It certainly led towards a heightening of concern,” Bobrowski said. “Officers arrived, set up security around the entire campus. Once we got all of the students back where they needed to go, officers from Layton police, Clearfield police, canines from different areas (such as) Hill Air Force Base in Weber County came down and the ATF and we just checked the campus for anything suspicious, anyone suspicious or the potential for an explosive device.”
He said the search turned up no evidence of explosives or other threats.
“We had no threat to the students on that campus, so we released the campus,” he said.
Officers remained on scene for about an hour after school let out on Thursday.
Bobrowski said there had been no arrests as of early Friday afternoon and the case remains under investigation.
