Drought restrictions are in effect for Weber Basin Water customers.

In an announcement Thursday on Facebook, the Weber Basin Water Conservancy District announced a 20% water allocation reduction with the secondary water season running from May 15 through Sept. 15.

According to the announcement, “water supplies are limited this year” due to “dry conditions” and “low snowpack.”

Customers are instructed to ensure that user valves are closed now.

“SAVING EARLY MATTERS,” it reads. “By delaying watering, reducing frequency, and monitoring use, you can save water for the extreme heat of July and August.”

The notice advises customers to manage water allocation at mywaterutah.org/weberbasin and to use the portal to “track water use,” “review seasonal water balance” and “set leak and usage alerts.”

It says that early monitoring of usage helps to prevent “exceeding your allocation,” “service lockout” and “additional fees.”

The secondary water season and water allocation reduction are “subject to change dependent on water supply,” the notice reads, and customers are advised to “refer to website for additional information.”

Layton City reinforces, expands on restrictions

In a separate Facebook post that echoed and expanded on the Weber Basin Water Conservancy District’s post, Layton City advised residents to “reduce all outdoor water use by 20% this season” and said that irrigation season would not start until May 15.

“Please do not turn on sprinkler systems or use outdoor water prior to this date,” the post read. “This applies to all residents using culinary water, as well as customers of Weber Basin Water Conservancy District and Layton City Secondary Water. As a reminder, Layton City Secondary Water customers also include those formerly serviced by Davis & Weber Counties Canal Company within Layton City. Thank you for doing your part to conserve this valuable resource.”
