OGDEN — A second person has died following last week’s two-vehicle crash in Ogden.
According to a press release from the Ogden City Police Department sent late Monday afternoon, a second child, age 7, succumbed to injuries sustained in the crash that also took the life of an 11-year-old.
The two deaths stem from an incident that began unfolding around 7:45 p.m. on Friday.
“Officers attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver failed to yield,” an earlier Ogden City Police Department release said. “As the suspect accelerated away, he struck one of the police vehicles attempting to stop him. The suspect fled at high speeds until ultimately colliding with another vehicle in the intersection at 31st Street and Grant Avenue.
“The victim vehicle was occupied by two adults and six children. One of the child passengers, aged 11, was ejected upon impact and sustained fatal injuries. The remaining seven occupants are being treated for injuries ranging from critical to non-life-threatening. The full nature and extent of their injuries are still being assessed.”
The release continued that the driver and a single passenger in the suspect vehicle were both identified as 14-year-old males and that they had also sustained injuries requiring hospitalization.
Monday’s release noted that the suspect remains hospitalized and is receiving medical treatment and that the occupants of the vehicle that was struck are also continuing to receive medical care and that their conditions are being monitored.
“The Weber-Metro CRASH Team, along with the Ogden Police Department Investigations Bureau and the Weber-Morgan Homicide Task Force, continues to investigate this incident, which remains active and ongoing,” the Monday release added.
As of this time, no further information has been made publicly available.
