Four dead following fire in Riverdale Thursday morning

Fire trucks on sceneRIVERDALE — The husband of a Weber School District teacher and three of their children are dead following a fire early Thursday morning.
According to multiple reports from area media, one adult and three children were killed in an early morning fire in Riverdale near 4600 South and 1100 West. Three other children and the mother were reportedly taken to a local hospital.
The Standard-Examiner reached out to authorities in Riverdale for more information but no response was received as of press time.
In a press statement from the Weber School District, it was noted that those who died were in their district.
“This morning, we were made aware of a devastating tragedy involving the family of one of our teachers,” the release said. “There are no words to adequately describe the sadness of such a loss. For a mother to lose her husband and three children is beyond heartbreaking. Our thoughts are with her and her other children, who were injured in the fire.”
The release did not identify the teacher nor has the identification been officially shared at this time.
“We recognize the profound impact this tragedy will have across the school communities where she works and where her children attend school,” the release continued. “We will continue to support her and her family, as well as others who have been affected.”
The statement also said that support will be available for students and staff as needed.
“Grief counselors will be available at Burch Creek Elementary and Bonneville High School to meet with students and staff who may be struggling with this loss,” the release said. We also have support in place at Riverdale Elementary and T.H. Bell Jr. High School. We understand that this will affect each of these school communities, and will remain attentive to the needs of our students, staff, and families.”
