OGDEN — The public will have an opportunity to connect with Ogden first responders while learning about fire prevention this week.

The Ogden City Fire Department is set to hold a Fire Prevention Open House on Thursday from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at Station 1 at 2186 Lincoln Avenue.

“We’re excited to invite the community to come out, meet our firefighters, explore what Ogden Fire has to offer, and learn more about how we can all help keep our families and community safe,” Ogden City Fire Marshal Brandon Parr told the Standard-Examiner in an email Friday. “Each year, the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) develops a campaign theme that fire departments across the country can use to help provide consistent, data-driven fire-safety education. These campaigns focus on emerging technologies, trends, and injury data to help ensure educational resources are directed where they’re needed most.”

He said this year will see a focus on batteries.

“This year’s campaign is ‘Safe Charging is a Superpower,’ which builds on the focus from last year and highlights the importance of safe battery and charging practices,” he said. “There will be plenty to see and do at this year’s Open House. We’re proud to welcome several of our incredible community partners. Rocky Mountain Power will be on hand with a demonstration, the Utah Highway Patrol will bring its Seat Belt Convincer, and our own Ogden Fire Rescue team will showcase their skills with an exciting rope-rescue demonstration.”

The evening will also include fire truck rides for a canned food donation, safety demonstrations and other family activities. The canned food will benefit Catholic Community Services.

Parr said the evening’s crucial function is to bring residents a little closer to the first responders serving them.

“Most importantly, this event is about connecting with our community,” he said. “The Open House gives us an opportunity to showcase Ogden Fire’s capabilities and history while sharing the passion we have for serving the people of Ogden. We want our residents and visitors to come meet their fire department, ask questions, share ideas, and learn practical ways to keep themselves, their families, and our community safe. It’s a great opportunity to learn, have some fun, and get to know the people who are here to serve you every day.”
