HUNTSVILLE — Officials at Snowbasin Ski Resort are hoping the promise of a snowier winter pays off.

Should that be the case, skiers will have an all new function space to gather in for the the 2026-2027 ski season.

On Friday, Snowbasin Ski Resort Brand Marketing Manager Brooks Roe spoke with the Standard-Examiner about the upcoming season.

“We’re wrapping up the fall festivities this weekend — our last brunch, our last event — and then we’re on to basically prepping everything and waiting for the snow to fall,” he said.

He said that preparing for the new season has largely been about making little fixes wherever they’re needed around the mountain.

“Our team has been working hard this summer,” he said. “We’ve really been working on the guts of the mountain — a lot of snow making systems we’ve been fixing up, some bells and whistles on the lifts — some small repairs that needed to be done get done, and we also did some widening on a couple of trails by Bear Hollow,” he said. “So nothing too much new when it comes to this season, right now we’re just waiting for that snow to fall and kick on our snow-making guns.”

However, Snowbasin isn’t devoid of new sights for returning skiers this winter.

Over the summer, work was completed on the Meadow Pavilion, a new multi-purpose event space.

“Snowbasin’s newest event venue is built for gathering in comfort,” the Snowbasin website said. “Tables fill the main room for dining, mingling, or meetings, and panoramic windows spanning the back of the building frame beautiful, scenic mountain views. A built-in projector displays anything guests need on a massive screen, making it easy to pair the space with presentations, slideshows, or entertainment. It’s a flexible, light-filled space for reunions, banquets, and milestone celebrations of nearly any size.”

Roe said that this will allow a wide range of activities.

The Meadow Pavilion at Snowbasin Ski Resort was finished in the summer of 2026. The 2026-2027 ski season will be the first ski season the new venue will help accommodate.

“We built it to basically just give more room for our guests to spread out and enjoy their lunch and warm up during a ski break,” he said. “It’ll also be housing our kind of our ski school kids lunch area. We have a large ski school program, and when it comes time for them to take their break, they really had nowhere to go, especially on busy, busy days. This was a great opportunity to get them into a new area where they can really spread out and keep all those kids corralled in a pleasant manner.”

As with several other spaces and venues on Snowbasin property, the Meadow Pavilion can be rented for private functions as well.

Roe said that the resort, as it has in the past, is aiming its ski season opening date for the day after Thanksgiving (Nov. 27), but notes that opening day is contingent on being able to provide patrons a quality experience.

“That’s usually our goal, but we will always open earlier if the conditions allow,” he said. “Our main priority is providing a great experience for all of our guests, all of our skiers coming up and we don’t want to open with just Bear Hollow and let everybody run mad on it. We want to open up as much terrain as we can for people to enjoy and have a great opening day experience.”

He said that he hopes the promise of the current winter forecast pays off for Snowbasin after last year’s disappointing snowfall year.

“We’re hoping for that Super El Nino as well, and hoping we can get some snow like we had during our record season a few years ago,” he said. “We’re optimistic. We’re looking forward to it, hoping for cold temps to make snow and lay down a good base and get a good season going.”

Roe said that Snowbasin is also hiring several positions for the upcoming ski season. For more information, visit https://www.snowbasin.com/about/employment/.
