According to Ogden School District Director of Communications Jer Bates, Stanley Renda’s employment with Ogden School District was terminated effective Wednesday.

“At this stage, state law protects confidential personnel information and limits what Ogden School District may disclose about the basis for the termination,” Bates told the Standard-Examiner in an email Wednesday afternoon. “The district therefore cannot provide additional details concerning the personnel action.”

Parents were notified of the termination decision via email Wednesday morning.

According to court documents, Renda was arrested on Saturday following an incident the previous evening.

The affidavit of probable cause reads that officers were summoned Friday evening to what was determined to be a family disturbance at a residence in Ogden.

“It was found that following an argument, the victim got into the shower,” the affidavit said. “The arrestee, Stanley Renda (Stanley), dragged the victim from the shower by her hair, pulling her into another room. The victim reported that Stanley then applied pressure to the point that she could not breath, and believed she would pass out. As the victim struggled to get free, Stanley struck her in the face several times. The victims injuries substantiated her statements. Prior to officers arrival, Stanley began cleaning the mess made during the altercation, which included the victims blood. Stanley’s 2 young children were in an adjacent room.”

Renda was charged with one count of aggravated assault that produces loss of consciousness, two counts of domestic violence in the presence of a child – strangulation/choking and one count of obstruction of justice.

Bates said the district is aware of legal matters involving Renda and that it will issue no comment on these matters other than to state that no students are believed to have been involved.

“Separately, the district is aware of publicly available information concerning an off-campus legal matter involving Mr. Renda,” the release said. “Based on information currently available to Ogden School District, the district has no information indicating that OSD students, school activities, or school-related conduct are involved.

“The district will not characterize unresolved allegations or comment on related legal proceedings. These limits reflect the district’s legal responsibilities regarding confidential personnel information and its respect for the legal process.”

Bates added that the district has moved swiftly to make staffing adjustments.

“District and school leaders have made immediate staffing adjustments,” he said. “Existing band staff and district music leaders are assuming expanded responsibilities while the district begins the process of filling the position.”

He said that the district is trying to make disruptions as minimal as possible while providing students with the resources they need.

“Our priorities are supporting students and minimizing disruption to rehearsals, performances, competitions, and other scheduled band activities,” he said. “Scheduled activities will continue as planned unless students and families receive a direct update. Counseling and administrative support are also available to students as they process this unexpected change.”
